The first International Congress for Microbiology was held nearly 100 years ago. In 1970 the Executive Committee decided to create three sections covering the fields of Bacteriology, Virology, and Mycology. They became three separate divisions of IUMS with complete autonomy, and with their own International Congresses.

For the first time in years, the three IUMS divisions will come together to hold a joint meeting, IUMS 2022.
